Colin Slater MBE, writer and BBC radio commentator, and for many the voice of Notts County, is the latest to be celebrated in a namesake real ale in our series of Nottinghamian Celebration Ales.

The first pints were pulled at the Embankment by Trent Bridge and Meadow Lane, and at the Portland Leisure Centre, nearby in the Meadows.   BBC East Midlands Today joined the celebrations for this adopted son of Nottingham.
Colin Slater, who was admitted to the football club’s Hall of Fame in 2014, is a long-time trustee of Notts County’s registered charity, Football in the Community. He says it was a big step on the part of the Board of Trustees to agree to take over the Portland Leisure Centre.  He pays tribute to Football in the Community director Steve Hill and his staff for making the investment such a huge success. Colin, who has written about Notts since 1959 and covered their matches on BBC Radio Nottingham since the station opened in 1968, says he feels greatly honoured to be associated with Castle Rock’s Nottinghamian Celebration Ales.

New Tram named after company secretary Colin Slater

Colin Slater MBE - our company secretary and legendary Notts County commentator for BBC Radio Nottingham, has become the latest person to be honoured by having one of NET’s new fleet of trams named after him.Colin award
NET Marketing Manager, Jamie Swift, commented: "A total of 22 new trams have joined our expanded fleet and, in keeping with tradition, each one is being named after local people who have made their mark on our community.
"We went through a nominations process a few months ago and Colin's name was put forward on numerous occasions. It's not surprising because he's been a big part of the Nottingham scene since he moved here in the 1950s. He has legendary status as a commentator on Notts County and, as a Beeston resident, it was fitting that we could host the naming ceremony at our new Toton Lane terminus."
Cllr Jane Urquhart of Nottingham City Council said: “Colin is known and respected by many as Mr Notts County, reporting on the club’s biggest moments on BBC Radio Nottingham for over 55 years. He has also made a great contribution to the community in his role as the deputy chairman of the local Bench of Magistrates.
“I am delighted that we can pay tribute to his service by naming one of Nottingham’s new trams in his honour.”colin tram name
